Tejon
Tejon is a product by Tesoro created in 2003 having a stronger sensitivity. It is achieved due to the construction of a new search coil, increased operating frequency and stronger radiated power.
The device has a manual ground balancing and two discrimination schemes for a quick checking of the detected objects. The discriminators are tuned by separate regulators and are switched by a trigger in the lower part. The 1st (basic) discriminator covers the whole range of objects: from all metals to large copper objects with a separate position “all metals”, the second discriminator covers only a non-ferrous range of metals.
Besides, there is a possibility to tune the sounds and switch in the VCO mode.
For some years Tesoro Tejon has been THE BEST device for searching medieval objects and for the final mopping-up the sites rich in finds. It is also an irreplaceable tool when exploring heavily littered areas. It works at any soil and identifies “hot stones” easily.
Unlike digital devices where the processor can’t receive and process the signal quickly Tesoro Tejon has the quickest target response that makes it possible not to miss small targets when sweeping fast over the target. So the strong point of the detector is discrimination of targets that means solving the problem of masking the coin by some iron lying nearby.
Tesoro Tejon is famous for its detection depth, especially for small targets, such as “scales”, small weights, etc. The device can easily see scales even at “5c” discriminator level when practically all metal objects are ignored. That’s why it is not a problem for this detector to work even at heavily littered areas.
Power (12V) is supplied by 8 AA penlight batteries which make it possible for the device to emit strong signals. The detector can operate with one set of batteries up to 45 hours. Tesoro Tejon is notable for stable work at littered areas and heavy soils.
Tejon has a manual adjustment of threshold. This option is one of the most important parameters which are inherent in professional devices, and skill of working with such a device qualifies the operator as a professional. The possibility of adjusting the threshold enables to find very small objects (including the smallest gold nuggets) at a considerable depth and big objects at a great depth which is inaccessible for other metal detectors.
A new patented system of discrimination – “ED180” – is realized in the device Tesoro Tejon. This system has an expanded range of discrimination (receiving/ignoring) for non-ferrous metals with low-conductivity, a possibility to discriminate between them and not to identify them as ferrous objects. Due to high sensitivity even to a coin lying on the edge, the detector Tesoro Tejon creates a clear stable signal.
The searchers not acquainted with detectors produced by Tesoro may be confused by only one audio tone. But actually in a few hours of work it becomes clear that it is an advantage of Tesoro Tejon. The device has one tone but its range is very wide and has many variations of this tone. You can learn to identify the type of metal by the sound with the help of VCO indication quite quickly and you don’t need to have a good ear for this.
If you ignore all the ferrous objects with the help of discrimination control, the device won’t react to small metal objects. If you find a closed circle, such as a metal ring for example, the device will produce a discontinuous crackling signal. Many digital devices will show this object as a non-ferrous target, or due to their multi-tonality they will produce a hopping non-ferrous signal and therefore mislead the operator. The detector Tejon will produce a clear loud repetitive signal when detecting the targets opened by the discriminator.
Working modes: dynamic search of all metals with the VCO indication and a dynamic search for all metals with a double discrimination.
Control units: two controls of the discrimination level, ground balancing control, threshold tone control, sensitivity control/switch-off, sound control/VCO switch-off, work modes switch – discriminator 1, discriminator 2, all metals (in the lower part).
